Police Department

Liberty Police Dept.signThe primary functions of the Liberty Police Department are the preservation of peace and order, the detection and prevention of crime, protection of property, apprehension of offenders and the enforcement of the laws of the State of North Carolina and the ordinances of the Town of Liberty.  Society demands that law enforcement officers have the strength to endure all obstacles and maintain the integrity of a saint.  Officers are required to make life and death decisions in a split second while under all types of pressure and to be always correct in making those decisions.  The outcome of those decisions will be studied by scholars and officers of the courts for hours, days, weeks, months and even years.  We rely on our training, common sense, and compassion for other individuals to guide our daily decisions and actions.

In 2003 the Liberty Police Department embarked in the direction and application of Community Oriented Policing to improve the quality of life for the community.  The implementation has been gradual, but a progressive process and we continue to adapt and implement new measures to this day.  A number of programs and improved community partnerships have been formed to improve the positive and proactive direction of the Liberty Police Department in cooperation with the community.
